Chicago Red

Rays 10.30pm Fri Sat & Sat

Lifestory roots blues!
Red has the authenticity of a man born in Chicago and who has experienced a tough life. He began playing piano at the age of six, switching to guitar
at age 12 and by 15 was listening to the music of the Chicago Blues scene. Seeing Muddy Waters & Howling Wolf perform, as well as meeting Louis Armstrong & Count Basie as a 10 year old, had a lasting impact on his life and a passion for the blues. Red has appeared on many US stations and the BBC & Radio 2 and has toured worldwide. If you are a lover of blues roots, this one’s for you - welcome to Castlebar Red. Also plays the 'After Dinner Blues' session in the TF Royal Sat, 4pm.

Visit Red's website and have a listen to Paul Jones BBC Radio 2 session

Imelda May - Irl TF Royal Theatre Fri 8pm

From listening to rockabilly and blues songs (Elvis, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent) from an early age, Imelda has turned these songs into a cool, swinging fusion that’s both classic and oddly modern. Her debut album, ‘Love Tattoo’, is lusciously retro, but as fresh as 2010. And her live gigs are fierce. Her own favourites are the big, bawdy stomper ‘Johnny Got a Boom-Boom’ and the delicate ‘Falling in Love with You Again’, which was inspired by her husband (and band guitarist) Darrel Higham. Other band members include Dave Priseman - trumpet, bugle horn & percussion, Al Gare - bass and Steve Rushton - drums. Since her appearance on Jools Holland, and at the Grammy’s with Jeff Beck performing a Les Paul tribute, Imelda’s career has exploded from the small stages of Dublin’s bars to international acclaim.
